Lure of Obsession (The Muse Chronicles, #1)
by: Lisa Kessler
Series: The Muse Chronicles
Genre: Urban Fantasy Romance
Release Date: August 1, 2016
Publisher: Lisa’s Lair

The Prophecy - "Every generation the nine daughters of Zeus are reborn, and with their rebirth are also nine Guardians. They will be marked by the gods, and given gifts to protect his treasure. Their abilities will only be unlocked when they find their muse."

Melanie Jacoby teaches English at Crystal City High School. She's also the reborn Muse of Tragic Poetry, but she isn't prepared for the tragedy of finding her roommate dead at the bottom of the stairs.

Nate Malone is the detective assigned to the case, but as the evidence points to an accidental fall, the visions begin. He sees a killer in a gold Kronos mask.

Mel is the next target.

The Order of the Titans are eager to bring about the return of the Golden Age of Man, and they're prepared to kill the Muses to complete their mission. But Nate's desire to protect Mel is almost as strong as his hunger for her.

And tragedy isn't part of his plan.

Lisa Kessler is definitely an author to read.  Lure of Obsession, the first book in her Muse Chronicles has everything from friendship and love to suspense and mystery.  The story sets up what promises to be an incredible series.

Melanie Jacoby is a high school English teacher.  She’s a human, chosen by the Gods to be one of the nine daughters of Zeus, reborn to inspire mankind to move forward with inventions, music, and science.  The nine chosen daughters have various backgrounds and are from all across the country.  Melanie, the Muse of Tragic Poetry, shares a home with Nia, the Muse of Astronomy.

The story starts out with Melanie coming home and discovering the lifeless body of Nia at the bottom of the stairs.  Police are convinced that Nia’s death was an accident and that she simply fell down the stairs.  Melanie is adamant that Nia’s death was murder.

Detective Nate Malone is a good detective.  He’s smart and thorough.  He tends to listen to his gut instincts.  He initially agrees that Nia’s death was just a tragic accident until he’s alone with Melanie at her house and gets an unexplained vision.  He now knows that Nia was murdered, but the question becomes who killed Nia and why.

To figure out who’s behind Nia’s death and the attempts on Melanie’s life, the muses are going to have to rely on the ancient Greek scrolls and believe that nine Guardians have been put on Earth to protect them and help them with their quest to inspire.

I loved everything about Lure of Obsession.  The main characters immediately drew me into the story.  For me, the concept of adding in Greek mythology with a modern day twist had me intrigued.  The romance had me cheering Mel and Nate on, wishing and hoping to get a happily-ever-after for them.  But the mystery and suspense is what kept me reading.

It should be noted that each book in this series will feature a new couple.  However, the danger to the muses continue throughout the series.  It appears the ultimate villain sticks around throughout.  The Muse Chronicles is definitely a binge-worthy reading series.  I’m looking forward to the next book.
